The Subcommittee on African American Affairs is the official voice of the African American Catholic community. The subcommittee attends to the needs and aspirations of African American Catholics regarding issues of pastoral ministry, evangelization, social justice, worship, development of leaders and other areas of concern. The subcommittee also seeks to be a resource for the all Bishops and the entire Catholic Church in the United States. It aims to articulate the socio-cultural dimension of the African American Catholic community and identify or create resources that would allow for an authentic integration of the richness of African American Catholic culture and the Catholic Church in the United States.

Bishop's Easter Message

Dear friends in Christ:

As African-Americans, in a particular way we know that suffering does not have the final word...

Jesus Christ is Risen!  Alleluia!!  Alleluia!!

Throughout the season of Easter, we rejoice in the resurrection of the Lord and in the new life it promises to all born of water and the Holy Spirit in Baptism.  Those who humbly serve the needs of others as disciples of our Risen Lord will know his love, and the power of his victory over sin and death.  As African-Americans, in a particular way we know that suffering does not have the final word in our lives, and that new life can come forth from pain and death.  Empowered by the Resurrection of the Lord, may we all seek to worship the Risen Lord with reverence, and in His name to serve the needs of others to the best of our ability.

May the joy of the season of Easter be poured upon you and all of those dear to you!

Alleluia!

+Shelton J. Fabre
