Frank J. Lewis Institute for Campus Ministry Orientation

For over thirty years the Frank J. Lewis Institutes for Campus Ministry Orientation have been serving the Church by providing high quality professional preparation for campus ministers. Frank J. Lewis was a dedicated Catholic layman who established a foundation to aid the Church's work of evangelization. Over the years the Frank J. Lewis Foundation has helped to support the work of the eastern and western Frank J. Lewis Institutes and helped train thousands of campus ministers to serve the Church.

The program is focused to meet the needs of those who are entering campus ministry. The majority of active campus ministers in this country have attended one of the Frank J. Lewis Institutes. In addition, those who complete the Institute are eligible for acceptance in the yearlong Campus Ministry Mentoring Program. This is an in-depth ministry program that joins the new or first year minister with a more experienced mentor.

It is preferred that applicants for the Frank J. Lewis Institute for Campus Ministry Orientation have at least one year of campus ministry experience. Those who have no experience in campus ministry may be accepted if they have a campus ministry appointment for the upcoming year. Those with two years of campus ministry experience will also be accepted. The Institute is designed to be an excellent introduction for the professional campus minister.

One must have graduated from college and be prepared to participate in a bona fide academic program comparable to a master's degree summer program; be interested in a variety of opportunities to meet different groups, including students, alumni/ae, administrators and friends of campus ministry; have read and studied assigned monographs; and have a strong desire to serve as a campus minister for a number of years.

The amount paid by the participants for room, board and tuition covers about half the actual cost of the program. The remaining amount is covered by a grant from the Frank J. Lewis Foundation. Participants are responsible for their own transportation. A strictly limited number of participants will be accepted at the Institute. Applicants will be reviewed on a date-priority basis.
