CCHD Intern Orientation 2005

This year, 25 young people from around the country gathered in Washington, DC to be oriented to their new jobs as interns for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. The interns came from all different parts of the country and were leaving to many different positions; however, for a few days in June these interns formed a community of co-workers and friends that would follow them for some time to come.

Interning is hard work sometimes.

But we work together, listening…

… and sharing our ideas.

At first, many of the interns were quiet and shy

But it didn’t take long for their true personalities to shine out.

Writing down all of our wonderful ideas for raising awareness about CCHD

“I think ours needs pictures to help explain things”

This is what we are about:
We plant seeds that one day will grow.
We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise.
We lay foundations that will need further development.
We provide yeast that produces effects beyond our capabilities… We may never see the end results,
but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker.
We are workers, not master builders,
ministers, not messiahs.
We are prophets of a future not our own.
-Bishop Kenneth Untener, 1979

The interns remember their experience fondly and look forward to their work with CCHD
and a lifetime pursuit of justice thanks to the tools and knowledge they gained from
the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
