Background
The Oriental Orthodox-Roman Catholic Consultation first began to take shape in 1978 following calls by Pope Paul VI, Catholicos Vasken I, Supreme Patriarch of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and Pope Shenouda III, the late Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, for scholars to "open up new avenues which will overcome the differences that still exist and bring their Churches to a more perfect unity in the profession of their faith."-The Consultation meets once each year.
-The Catholic Co-Chairman is Bishop Howard Hubbard of Albany.
-Metropolitan Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim of the Eastern Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch was recently named the new Oriental Orthodox Co-Chairman.
-The Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches is composed of the Armenian, Coptic, Ethiopian, Syrian and Malankara Syrian Orthodox Churches
-Fr. Ronald Roberson, CSP, currently staffs this dialogue on behalf of SEIA
