Christian Churches Together

News from the Feb. 1 meeting: The 2013 CCT meeting in Austin, Texas, centered on immigration.  Out of this, the full CCT membership produced a consensus statement that was made public at the conclusion of the meeting.  Read the 'Statement on Immigration Reform' on the CCT web site. Just as our nation's political leaders are pursuing a common solution to bettering the immigration system, the nation's Christian leaders in CCT, representing most of the country's major denominations, have made a strong appeal for just immigration reform with this document.

As part of the meeting, CCT members heard a powerful keynote speech by Bishop Daniel Flores of Brownsville entitled "The Immigration Experience at the Border." The group also had the chance to meet "dreamers," people born outside the U.S. who came here illegally but have no memory of the land of their birth. Fr. Ron Roberson, Associate Director for the Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs wrote about the significance of CCT's work on immigration for the USCCB Media Blog. Bishop Denis Madden, Chairman of our bishops' committee, delivered a homily during evening prayer at the CCT meeting.

What is CCT?

Christian Churches Together in the USA, made up of 43 denominations and organizations, was developed as a forum in which Christian Churches can form new relationships with other Churches. Founded in September 2001 and officially announced in April 2002, CCT-USA brings together a diverse group of Christian Churches in order that "all who believe will be one with God and one another, so that the world may believe in Him as Lord and Savior."

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is one of 43 Churches and Christian organizations that meet annually with the priority to pray and worship together, build relationships of trust, and to discern challenges that need to be addressed in society in order to strengthen the collective Christian witness to the world.  Fr. Ron Roberson staffs this dialogue on behalf of the Secretariat.
